Spiritual Significance
The **Sema Ceremony** represents a mystical journey of man's spiritual ascent through mind and love to perfection. It is a highly disciplined and complex ritual with seven separate parts, each carrying a different spiritual meaning.
As the Dervishes whirl, they keep one hand pointing to the sky (receiving God's beneficence) and the other hand pointing to the earth (distributing it to the people). This symbolises that we take from God and give to man, holding nothing for ourselves.
Historic Caravanserai
Our ceremony takes place in an authentic 13th-century Caravanserai (Saruhan). These were ancient roadside inns where travelers and traders rested along the Silk Road. The thick stone walls and mystical acoustics create the perfect atmosphere for the ritual.
Ceremony Q&A
Is this a tourist show or a real religious ceremony?
The Sema is an authentic, deeply spiritual ceremony of the Mevlevi Order, representing a mystical journey of spiritual ascent. It is not just a show, but a genuine cultural and religious practice.
How long does the Sema ceremony last?
The entire experience lasts approximately 1 hour, featuring traditional live Sufi music, chanting, and the mesmerizing whirling of the Dervishes.
